ABOUT CACAO
THEOBROMA CACAO
- also known as “Food of the Gods,”
Theobromine is the active ingredient in cacao that stimulates the heart and serves as a vasodilator. Theobromine comes from the term Theobroma - which is the genus name of the cacao tree.
The etymology of Theobroma comes from the Greek root Theo - Which means “god” and the root Broma - Which means “food”.
Literally translating to “Food of the Gods”
CACAO helps us work directly with the heart.
Cacao is known to enhance moods, helping us to feel connected to our heart space while also helping us to feel grounded and open.
Cacao contains neuroactive microcompouds like serotonine, theobromine, anandamide, or salsolinol (a dopamine composite). Which allow for people to feel a sense of expansion, lightness, mental clarity, joy, and excitement.
Cacao is also used in ceremonial and transformational practices. For centuries the Mayan people have used cacao in rites of passage ceremonies, spaces of celebration, and when moving through grief.
Cacao is not only a physical experience, the medicine also offers us an opportunity to open to the spirit that resides within the plant, to ask for guidance and support in our day to day life or in spaces of intentional questioning and transformation.
There is a Mayan legend
that says,
"When humans are utterly disconnected with nature
and themselves,
Cacao/Kakaw will walk out of the jungle and re-introduce herself to humanity to restore the balance of human's relationship with Mother Earth
as well as their relationship
with themselves."
